Yes! We managed to put a 5-megapixel camera into the new Fly E115. It wasn't easy. When development started, the platform didn't support a camera with that resolution at all, so we solved it by adding a separate co-processor just for the camera.
Work on the model began a year ago, when we set the specs and the rough design. Back then it still had a keypad, but touch devices were taking over, so we decided to go fully touchscreen. For Fly, this phone is:
- our first attempt at a 5 MP phone
- our first attempt at supporting multiple themes and home-screen layouts
- the first phone with a xenon flash (which is why it came out a bit chunky)
- the first phone with a microUSB port
There's probably something else I've forgotten. The project had its problems, too. For the first time, a phone took so long to develop that it was nearly cancelled three times. Whether that's good or bad, I can't yet say. In my humble opinion, models like this aren't big sellers for Fly and won't ship in large numbers. They're a way to try out new technology, nothing more.
P.S. And this isn't Fly's last 5 MP phone of 2008...
